“You have to become comfortable being uncomfortable.” This quote is repeated so often these days that you might feel inclined to dismiss as cliché. It might be cliché, but it is also true and absolutely essential.
There is no growth inside your comfort zone. If you don’t challenge yourself, you do not create the conditions necessary for expansion. Life is boring if we just stay frozen in place. We might feel safe and comfortable if we only stick with what we know and have already experienced. But by doing so we miss out on life. Life can be a thrill, an adventure, an exciting challenge.
We project our fears onto what may happen if we step outside our comfort zones. But we must realize, it is only outside our comfort zones that we fulfill our greatest desires. The first step to getting out of your self-created bubble is understanding the high price you are paying by staying within it. Once you realize how much you are missing out by staying comfortable, you will be able to cultivate the desire and the courage to challenge your limits and face the unknown.
If you’ve spent your whole life playing it safe then don’t try to radically change overnight. Assess yourself and your situation completely. See where you are holding yourself back by staying comfortable. Then start by making small changes. Your tolerance for being outside your comfort zone will grow. Eventually you can reach a point where you are totally comfortable in the face of the unknown. You’ll achieve your highest potential when you face and overcome your fears.
