Every poker player knows that you cannot be afraid of going “all-in” when the time is right. Life is a lot like poker. If you always hesitate and hold back then you will never know your true potential, you won’t discover the greatness you could achieve.
In poker, it is often the case that ONLY by going all-in, do we win the hand. If you are afraid to lose in poker and in life, you will never win big. You must be courageous. Life is meant to be exciting. By “playing it safe,” we often defeat ourselves. We clip our wings.
A good poker player also knows that you must be strategic about when you go all-in. For example, you need to have the best hand or have strong reason to believe that if you go all-in your opponent will fold a better hand to you. In life, as well, it is important to know when to go all-in. Don’t just go all-in on a whim. Take the time to get clear on what you truly want in life. Figure out what you deeply desire.
Once you’ve identified your true heart’s desire, then develop a plan. A good plan is like a good hand of poker. You need a plan that you can go all-in on. Of course, there are no guarantees in life, you can lose with a good hand. And most likely you will have to adjust the plan along the way. The important point is that you have a specific plan of action to accomplish you desire and you go all-in and give it 100%. Remember, the plan might not work if you only give it 99%.
And just like with poker, if you go all-in and lose a big hand, you’ll survive. Dust yourself off, take a breather. After you’ve given yourself sometime to cool off, it is time to play again!
