If you are looking to improve your health and/or lifestyle I have good news and bad news for you.
First the bad news, bad habits are tough to break. Now, the good news, good habits are also tough to break!
Your habits create your life on auto-pilot. If you want to have a more healthy and positive life, you will need to break old habits and create new ones. It won’t be easy at first, but once the good habits are in place, they will serve you for life.
Here’s the secret to acquiring healthy habits and making positive lifestyle changes – change only one habit at a time. When people decide they want to improve their lives but try to make too many change too fast, they overwhelm themselves. For the first week or so, it can seem to be going well but soon they “burn out” and revert back to their old habits.
There is no rush. It is far better to go too slow and succeed, then to go too fast and crash and burn. Take a look at your life and decide on the highest priority habit you want to change. Commit fully to changing just that one habit. Make that your focus until the old habit is broken and the new habit is firmly established.
Typically, our brains take about 21 days to be re-wired with a new habit. However, it can vary. When your new habit becomes effortless, you’ll know that you are ready to move on to creating your next healthy, positive change.
